SOUNDTRACK – Matti Caspi

“Grandmothers”, uses the song “Eretz Yaffa Tropit” as it´s soundtrack. The song is by the Israeli Matti Caspi, who made a version in Hebrew for “País Tropical” by  the Brazilian, Jorge Ben Jor. The song was recorded in 1987, for the album “Eretz Tropit Meshugaat” (Crazy Tropical Land), which brings together hebrew versions of Brazilian classics.

Matti Caspi is one of the most important artists in the history of Israeli music. He began his career in 1968 as a singer of the Israeli army official band. In 1973 he released his first album, the revolutionary and psychedelic “Behind the sounds” alongside Shlomo Gronich. Since then, he has released over twenty albums.

The album “Eretz Tropit Meshugaat” (Crazy Tropical Land) was the one responsible for introducing and popularizing Brazilian music in Israel.
In 2009, Matti Caspi turned 60.

The Hebrew University in Jerusalem, has presented a musicology course entitled: from “Shubert to Caspi”, making Matti Caspi the first Israeli artist in history of the local music to be honored w/ such position.

The team of “Grandmothers” thanks very much Mr. Matti Caspi for the support in letting us use the song “Eretz Tropit Yaffa” in our movie.
