MICHAEL WAHRMANN

Wahrmann Michael, Director and Screenwriter, was born in 1979 in Montevideo, Uruguay. At the age of six, he emigrated to Israel. During  his adolescence, he participated in left wing  movements, organizing demonstrations and seminars for peace and the end of the conflict in the Middle East. At 18,  he was drafted and was a sailor for three years.

In 2000, he started experimenting with photography and literature. In 2001, he participated of the photo exhibit “Testing 123″ in the Hottentot Gallery. The same year, he won a “mention with honors” in the short story competition “La Palabra Limpia” in Uruguay.

In 2002, he joined the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, where he discovered a passion for video and film. The first year, he won the “Award for excellence” in his studies.

In 2004, he moved to Sao Paulo and received a scholarship to study film at the FAAP University. He graduated in 2007.

In 2009, he founded Sancho Films.

Grandmothers, is he’s first short film, done as his graduation film from the FAAP University was premiered at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival.  The film won over 40 prizes in Brazil anda round the world, like the Golden Plaque for Best Narrative Short film at the 46th Chicago Int. Film Festival, Grand Prix du Curtmetrage at the Amiens International Film Festival in France and best filma t the Sta. Maria da Feira Film Festival in Portugal.

In 2010, Michael participated as a Vídeo maker in the 29th São Paulo International Biennale of Arts with his vídeo performance – WIFE

At the end of 2010 he won the incentive award for short film from the São Paulo State for prodcing a new film named “Waiting for Gatti” and another award for feature screenplay development for his first feature screenplay – ROSA F.C.
